CCM Pilgrimage Calcutta 2018

Extract from the words that SR. PREMA MC, Superior General of the Missionaries of Charity, gave to the group of priests of the CCM in our pilgrimage to Calcutta… 4 th September 2018 Welcome fathers to Mother house from many countries around the world. Nowadays people are in need of being smiled at, but how the world has become so isolated. From the face of the person whom we see, we are either welcomed in or shut out. Mother wanted our sisters to smile, the brothers to smile, the fathers to smile, because she used to say you will never know how much “good” a simple smile can do, and one smile generates another smile and becomes a chain of smiles that can handle everything. The spirit which Mother gave us is of trusting and surrender into God alone. Last year I was going around different countries, meeting the sisters. It was very painful to see how systematically faith was stolen from people’s hearts, taken away from people’s hearts. The presence of the sisters have made difference; it has made a big difference in the countries; for example, Cuba would not be the same today without the sisters being present there, Ethiopia would not be the same without the sisters being there, Albania would not be the same without the sisters having been present there, and at their side the priest. Why was Mother so fussy about the fathers and the priests? Because they are Jesus, you are Jesus, you are the one who gives us Jesus, and the world today is longing to have the presence of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. You are the ones making them blessed with the Eucharist and the Sacraments. For our sisters, the more pure and the more we are attached to God, the more the Grace of God can flow through us to others, making us channels of this Grace. There are so fewer priests, that they are really working, and you have so much to do with the activities and tasks at which you are asked to be present. Look at Mother who was always so active till late in the night, and even on the plane flights always active. What I experienced with Mother was that union with Jesus which was so natural to her. I will really be grateful to you for serving the sisters in whatever place you are, to help the sisters to take great care of their interior life, because Mother from the beginning was convinced that the exterior must grow from the power of the interior, the union of God. We are supposed to be the light of Jesus and the fire of his love and you fathers help us; you keep us close to Jesus, you teach us how to pray and how to be in real relationship with Jesus, to serve in his spirit, to recognize his voice. All these days Mother is very close to us in sharing the same charism, the same vocation, as a dedication to the poorest of the poor, and maybe your poorest of the poor are the sisters, and you have to take care of them. Take care of me. THANK YOU “El olor de Calcuta” by Fr. José Antonio Sánchez

CCM Retreat Calcutta 2004

CATHOLIC WEEKLY OF CALCUTTA FEBRUARY 13-19, 2004 RETREAT FOR THE PRIESTS OF CORPUS CHRISTI MOVEMENT IN KOLKATA By Fr. F. Sunil Rosario   KOLKATA – The International Corpus Christi Movement for priests that began through the initiative of Late Mother Teresa, now Blessed Teresa of Kolkata had their enriching retreat in Kolkata, Barasat at Proggaloy. The retreat began on Sunday, Feb. 1 with the concelebrated Eucharist, with Fr. Pascual Cervera, as the main celebrant. Mother Teresa before she left her earthly sojourn, took Fr. Pascual to the Holy Father, John Paul II in July, 1997 to receive the blessings. Corpus Christi Movement was the last gift of Mother Teresa to the Church. In a letter addressed to Mother Teresa by the Vatican, Holy Father imparted his apostolic blessings on all the priests who would become a part of the movement in future. The letter says, “His Holiness prays that this initiative will bear abundant fruit for the fostering of priestly holiness and the spiritual renewal of the Church.” To initiate this movement, Mother Teresa reflected very deeply that the priests throughout the world may exercise their priestly ministry with great devotion to Our Lady and to the Blessed Sacrament. In a message given to Fr. Pascual, she shared her deeper longing and greater reverence for the priests, that they become holy priests in the service pf the world and the poor. She wrote, “Jesus said, ‘I Thirst’, let us all unite and satiate His thirst for love for souls. Let us all together with Jesus fill the world with His love through our works of love especially, may the Corpus Christ inflame the love of Christ throughout the world. Let us pray – Mary Mother of Jesus be Mother to Corpus Christi help us all to be Holy and let God bless us all.” Fr. Pascual explained how the Lord brought him to this movement. He learnt about the movement way back in early eighties from Mother Teresa. He served in the homes of Mother Teresa for several years as a layman, until he joined in Rome for priestly studies in 1982. He says, “Corpus Christi Movement for priests started by Mother Teresa and Father Joseph Langford, who later founded the Missionaries of Charity Fathers.” In fact, Mother’s desire was to have something for the Diocesan clergy, a forum that will unite them for their personal holiness and exercising priestly dedication and love. Hence, the purpose of the Corpus Christi Movement is to enable priests to share in the Charism and the Spirit given by God to the Church through Mother Teresa and the Missionaries of Charity family. One of Mother’s last wishes was the promotion of the Corpus Christi Movement for Priests, and in Mother’s words “This comes directly from the heart of Jesus”. She spoke of it as a “little way of holiness for priests”, no matter what their priestly assignments might be. The Aim of Corpus Christi Movement is an attempt to live the Gospel more fully and faithfully in greater simplicity and poverty of spirit. Jesus on the Cross said, “I thirst”. We as priests hear His call to satiate this thirst for love and for souls when we realize that we are thirsting for His Love. Through our priestly ministry we have the gift to satiate the Thirst of Jesus for souls, and the Thirst of souls for the Love of Jesus. We do this by living our loves centered in the Eucharist, source and summit for our priestly life, and by a complete abandonment to the hands of Mary, Mother of the Church and Mother of priests. Jesus is constantly thirsting for our love, so let us quench His Thirst with the gift granted to each priest by working for the salvation ad sanctification of souls – men, women and children. The entire retreat was for eight days, from Feb. 1-8. The first four days were the days of input sessions, consisting of two talks by the preachers. His Grace Archbishop Emeritus Henry D’Souza, Fr. Garry Duckworth, MC, Fr. Leo Maasburg, Bro. Jesudas, MC and Fr. Pascual Cervera. Each of them spoke very convincingly their personal experience of Mother, her mission and a deeper spirituality she left behind as her legacy to be carried on and spread throughout the world. Mother believed in taking one step at a time, so also bringing souls to God one by one. To be a part of the movement is a special call given by God to those who want to satiate the thirst of all who are in search of God’s mercy, kindness and peace. The remaining four days were more experimential exposure to the homes started by Mother Teresa in Kolkata. In the morning, the priests concelebrated Masses in groups in several houses of Mother Teresa, i.e. Mother House, Shishu Bhavan, Nirmal Hriday, Kalighat, Park Street, Prem Dan, Beatification house. During the days, the priests went to visit some of the centers and remained there to experience life among the inmates, serving them, feeding them and being with them for the rest of the day. At the end of the day, all came back to Mother House to have Holy Hour. On Thursday, Feb. 5, the concelebrated Mass was said at Mother’s tomb. Archbishop Henry was the main celebrant. The retreat concluded on Sunday, Feb. 8 with an Holy Hour at the tomb of Mother. All the retreatants joined this Holy hour and thanked God for the beautiful opportunity provided for them to come and be a part of the spiritual journey. Sr. Nimala Joshi, MC the Superior General of Missionaries of Charity in her final speech thanked God for the gift of priesthood and thanked all the priests who joined the retreat. She spoke very convincingly the importance of growing together under the protection of Mother Mary and thus becoming ‘Another Christ’ radiating the light if His Love everywhere they go in ministry. All the priests present were called to consecrate themselves to Our Lady. The prayer of consecration was said by the priests in silence, while the sisters sang some of the melodious hymns to praise and thank God. All the priests were invited for the fellowship meal. The sisters were seen serving the priests full of love and care. It was the scene of Cana indeed. There were 28 priests from nearly 13 countries around the globe, i.e. USA, Argentina, Mexico, Austria, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Switzerland, Netherlands, Croatia, Scotland, Malta. From India, 5 joined among them 4 diocesan and one Religious. Archbishop Henry D’Souza also joined the retreat ad inspired all for his presence and inspiring talks. Just before Mother died, she wrote a prayer dedicating that to Our Lady and through her intercession for the sanctification of priests throughout the world. “Mary, Mother of Jesus, and my Mother, you were the first one to hear Jesus cry, “I Thirst”. You know how real, how deep is His longing for me and for the poor. I am yours. Mother Mary, teach me, bring me face to face with the Love in the Heart of Jesus Crucified. With your help, I will listen to Jesus’ Thirst and it will be for me a Word of Life. Standing near you, I will give Him my love, and I will give Him the chance to love me, and so be the Cause of Your Joy and so to satiate Jesus’ Thirst for Love of souls. Amen.”

CCM Pilgrimage Calcutta 2010

Priest-pilgrims visit Blessed Teresa’s tomb Posted By editor On February 5, 2010 (2:46 pm) In Countries, Daily Service, Features, India KOLKATA, India (UCAN) — A group of diocesan priests from 17 countries is visiting Missionaries of Charity houses in Kolkata to mark the Year for Priests and Blessed Teresa’s birth centenary. Thirty-six members of the Corpus Christi Movement (CCM) began the “pilgrimage to places where Mother lived and worked” on Feb. 2, the feast of the Presentation of the Lord. The program will end on Feb. 11, the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, CCM coordinator Father Pascual Cervera told UCA News. The 60-year-old diocesan priest from Spain says CCM members live Blessed Teresa’s spirituality, and the pilgrimage helps them understand her charism. The “pilgrim” priests, aged between 28 and 80, pray, celebrate Mass, and visit places associated with Blessed Teresa. It is a “spiritual program,” he added. The pilgrims are divided into seven groups and each group in turn visits seven Missionaries of Charity (MC) houses in the eastern Indian city each day. They spend the mornings helping the MC nuns and Brothers, and the evenings listening to close associates of Blessed Teresa. Father Cervera said Blessed Teresa founded CCM in 1980 when he was a seminarian. The Nobel laureate nun took him and another seminarian Joseph Langford to New York where she set up the first CCM community. Experiencing ‘love in action’ The Spanish priest said the “love in action” he witnessed in MC houses overwhelmed him. “Mother [Blessed Teresa] is alive in all these places,” he added. Austrian Father Leo Maasburg, 61, said the pilgrimage has given him time to reflect on his priesthood and Blessed Teresa’s spirituality. The Kolkata visit is “an examination of conscience” for him, to evaluate how he has used the graces he has received, he said. Father Maasburg told UCA News he has visited Kolkata thrice and “the spirit of love and service is the same in all the MC houses, even after so many years.” He said the CCM consoles diocesan priests who feel lonely in their parishes. Father Sunil Rozario from Calcutta archdiocese said the pilgrimage helps participants express “solidarity” with Kolkata’s “suffering humanity.” The Indian priest said it is “a rare occasion” for many diocesan priests to come together for a spiritual cause. He regretted the absence of an international body to unite diocesan priests. MC spokesperson Sister Lynn said the pilgrimage helped the nuns experience “the richness, greatness and sanctity of priesthood.” The nuns pray for more diocesan priests to join the CCM and experience transformation through their priestly ministry, she added. CCM Retreat Ars 2007

International Pilgrimage and Retreat for Priests August 6-13, 2007, in Ars, France Shrine of the Cure of Ars Jean Baptiste Marie Vianney Some Fifty members of the Corpus Christi Movement gathered in Ars for a time of retreat and fraternity. Ars echoes to many a priest’s heart as the place that is our home and source of inspiration as we put the hand to the plough of working in the Lord’s Vineyard. We had come from all five continents speaking different languages but joined in our love of the priesthood, need for solidarity and closeness to Blessed Teresa of Calcutta. Fr. Bob Conroy, Superior General of the Missionaries of Charity Fathers led us in the Spiritual Exercises. He invited us to embrace the nothingness of Curé of Ars and Mother Teresa so we could both find a true zeal for souls and love for the poor. He spoke of Mother’s inspiration of 1947 and 1948 when she had seen herself at the foot of the cross joined with the Mother of God amongst the Poorest of the Poor, being asked by Jesus to satiate his thirst for souls. He helped us understand more of Mother’s darkness and how this had shaped so much of her life as Foundress. He called us to a deep love for Jesus in the poor and to understand how our priesthood gave us the heart and the consecration to sanctity and reconcile. After the retreat we journeyed to Lyons to visit Our Lady of Fourvière, the protectress of many occasions for the people of that ancient city. At lunch we were joined by Cardinal Barbarin and one of his youthful auxiliaries who gave us a great hope and rejoiced in our presence along with the Sisters’ Community in Lyons. In the afternoon we visited the House of Paulina Jaricot, the foundress of the Pontifical Missions, another remainder of our call to mission. The next day we pilgrimed to Paray-le-Monial, home to the Sacred Heart and place of rest of St. Marguerite Mary Alacoque and St. Claude de la Colombière. It was more than fitting to finish our time together consecrating our mission and priesthood to the Sacred Heart which speaks of the tender love of Jesus and our call to be ready to suffer the love and sacrifices for the sanctification of souls. CCM Retreat Guadalupe 2006

International Pilgrimage and Retreat for Priests Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe January 2–10, 2006, in Mexico City Our Lady at the Foot of the Cross This year’s annual CCM retreat, held at the shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City, will have as its theme Mary at the Foot of the Cross. Our days of prayer together will be centered on the Eucharist, while Fr. Joseph, MC, and other priests will guide us with their conferences and with selected writings of Blessed Teresa of Calcutta, all based on the retreat’s theme. We have invited his Eminence Cardinal Norberto Rivera of Mexico to preside over one of our Masses. Archbishop Emilio Berlie of Merida, Yucatan, who knew Blessed Teresa in person, will give us a conference. Monsignor Diego Monroy, Rector of the Shrine at Guadalupe, will speak of the mystery of the apparitions of Our Lady at the site, and of the precious image she left of herself. We will stay in the priests’ residence very close to the Shrine. The MC Fathers, who have a house in Guadalupe, are also extending their hospitality to the participating priests. We are trying to keep the costs as low as possible. We pray that Our Lady will bring many priests to her Shrine. Like the retreats we have had in previous years, the meeting of priests from different countries will offer a great opportunity to enrich ourselves with priestly fraternity. Since there is not much time left, it is important that we know if you plan to participate to help organize accommodation and other activities.

CCM Retreat Prague 2005

INTERNATIONAL RETREAT & SEMINAR Prague, Czech Republic December 31 – Jan. 10, 2005   By Fr. F. Sunil Rosario Prague: The Annual International meeting of Corpus Christi Movement took place this year at Prague, the capital city of Czech Republic and the city of Saints, from December 31 – Jan. 10, 2005. There were about twenty five priests, Diocesan and Religious as associated members from all over the world, from U.S., Rome, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, England, Spain, Mexico, India, Argentina and Czech Republic. It was a seminar cum retreat based on the charism of Blessed Teresa of Calcutta, “I Thirst” and “Come, be My Light!” in the light of the infinite thirst of Jesus on the cross for love and for souls, which was at the root of Mother Teresa’s call and which became her driving force behind all she did was the major thrust of the entire ten days gathering. It was also to deepen the spirit behind the works of Mother Teresa and to bring Light and Love of Christ to the poorest of the poor, through the priestly ministry. Corpus Christi Movement was Mother Teresa’s call to holiness for the priests throughout the world through their priestly ministry to satiate the thirst of God for man and of man for God. Her vision for the Diocesan priests was “Let us all together with Jesus fill the world with His love through our works of love. It was her wish that this movement for priests may inflame the love of Christ throughout the world. In the words of Mother Teresa “This comes directly from the Heart of Jesus It is a little way of holiness for priests, no matter what their priestly assignments might be… Jesus loves His priests very much and He wants them to grow in holiness by living the priesthood to the full – this simple way.” The CCM began way back in 1982 in association with Fr. Joseph Langford, who later founded the Missionaries of Charity Fathers. Since the time of its inception, Fr. Pascual Cervera, a diocesan priest from the Archdiocese of New York has been actively involved in the movement and is its Coordinator, Before the project was presented to the Vatican officials in Rome, it was seen and approved by His Eminence, John Cardinal O’Connor. In July 1997, His Holiness Pope John Paul II imparted His Apostolic blessings on the initiative. He prayed that “this initiative will bear abundant fruit for the fostering of priestly holiness and the spiritual renewal of the Church.” Hence, the aim of CCM is an attempt to live the Gospel more fully and faithfully in greater simplicity and poverty of Spirit through the priestly ministry. It is to share spiritually in the charism and spirit given by God to the Universal Church through Mother Teresa and the Missionaries of Charity family. The Seminar cum Retreat for priests was meant to revive the spirit behind CCM and to help the priests to live this spirituality, “I Thirst” in the context of their own ministry and priestly vocation. It was also to strive for personal holiness and for their salvation and sanctification of all souls. To satiate the thirst of Jesus for souls and the thirst of souls for the love Jesus is a specific call given to the priests. The members of CCM, already active in ministry are called to live this charism by living the priestly lives centered in the Eucharist, source and summit of all priestly life and by a complete abandonment to the hands of Mary, Mother of the Church and Mother of priests. The four days seminar prior to retreat dealt with the dynamics of preaching retreat, the Ignatian structure of the Retreat, Principles and Foundation of Retreat based on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius and the Discernment of the Spirit. Rich inputs were given by Frs. Pascual Cervera, Leo Maasburg, David Kueter, OMV and the life giving retreat centered on Eucharist was preached by Fr, Joseph Langford, Fr. Thomas Kleinschmidt,OMV and Fr. David Kueter, OMV. The deliberations were based on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius and how Mother Teresa in her own spiritual journey applied them in reaching out to the poorest of the poor, seeing the face of Jesus, everyone she met in her caring ministry. Fr Jaroslav Broz, an active member of CCM, Scripture professor in the Seminary and Spiritual Director for MC sisters in Prague made all the necessary arrangements in collaboration with OFM Capuchin Monastery. The historical monastery where the priests spent their days in prayer and reflection has a rich religious and cultural heritage. The beautiful settings of the Church’s Architectural designs with meaningful biblical icons reflect the magnanimity and depth of religious life. The most significant among them is the setting of the crib, the scene of nativity, is a constant attraction to the visitors and tourists from all over the world. Prague is known for its rich cultural and religious heritage. It has played an important role in shaping the lives of the people through centuries. Though the seeds of Christianity was sown here in the 9th cent, the country under the Communist regime for over four decades since 1948 in the last century has undergone many hardships and persecutions. The Church in many ways lived the passion of Lord Jesus Christ and suffered a great deal and yet these have not diminished the forth but only increased among the faithful. For the priests gathered here, the meeting was an eye opener to many historical realities and they came in touch with numerous saints, who lived and walked on the sacred ground of this great city. It was obvious from the many magnificent Churches, pilgrimage centers, Monasteries and places of devotion and worship. Offering mass at the Shrine of Infant Jesus of Prague accompanied by a nice group of poor people at the Cathedral and at the tombs of St. Norbert, St. Wenceslaus, St. John Nepomucene and St. Vitus brought grace to all and the Corpus Christi Movement. The MC sisters shared the joy of being together in the celebration of the Eucharist at the Norbertine Monastery. The visit to His Excellency, Miloslav Cardinal Vlk was also very meaningful and encouraging. He welcomed all the members whole-heartedly. In his brief meeting with the priests, he appreciated deeply the initiative taken by CCM to revive the spirit of Jesus throughout the world by living the charism of Mother Teresa through the priestly ministry. He said, that he knew Mother Teresa very personally and he is very much aware of this powerful charism operating in the Church. Further he said, “What Mother Teresa has left behind will have a lasting effect to bring glory to God and to bring people closer to Jesus.” “It’s a great mission and challenge for the priests to carry on with total dedication to serve Christ in the poor and through their priestly ministry. I encourage you to go ahead with this charism and I give you all my blessings”, said the Cardinal. As the Corpus Christi Movement has been officially approved by the Holy See on August 6, 2004, the members worked on its statutes based on the documents presented to the Vatican in the presence of Mother Teresa, in July 1997, The statutes are meant for deeper study, reflection and its implementation in the respective areas of priestly ministry throughout the world.   Mother Teresa’s Prayer for Priests Mary, Mother of Jesus, throw your mantle of purity over our priests. Protect them, guide them, and keep them in your heart. Be a Mother to them, especially in times of discouragement and loneliness. Love them and keep them belonging completely to Jesus. Like Jesus, they, too, are your sons, so keep their hearts pure and virginal. Keep their minds filled with Jesus, and put Jesus always on their lips, so that he is the one they offer to sinner and to all they meet. Mary, Mother of Jesus, be their Mother, loving them and bring them joy. Take special care of sick and dying priests, and the ones most tempted. Remember how they spent their youth and old age, their entire lives serving and giving all to Jesus. Mary, bless them and keep a special place for them in your heart. Give them a piece of your heart, so beautiful and pure and immaculate, so full of love and humility, so that they, too, can grow in the likeness of Christ, Dear Mary, make them humble like you, and holy like Jesus. Amen!
